The first time you power your drone is often called the “smoke test”. If everything powers up fine, you’ve passed, if not, you’ll be inhaling blue magic smoke and replacing parts! Not with the TBS Smoke Stopper! Compared to standard smoke stoppers, the TBS Smoke Stopper offers much lower trip and hold currents, as well as faster reaction time. We also provide a wider variety of input voltages and in- & output connectors than any other smoke stopper!
SPECIFICATIONS:
- Connector: XT30 & XT60 (input and output)
- Input voltage: 1-14S (3 – 60V)
- Trip current: 1.0A
- Hold current: 0.5A
Disclaimer: This is just a fuse. Something may still break by the time the fuse trips. It won’t protect against all kinds of damages, but it’s still way better than nothing at all!
How to Use the TBS Smoke Stopper
1. Understand How It Works
- The Smoke Stopper uses a resettable fuse to limit the current flow.
- If there’s a short circuit or fault, the fuse will trip, stopping power flow to your drone.
2. Connect the Smoke Stopper
- Drone Side: Plug the male XT60 connector of the Smoke Stopper into your drone’s power input.
- Battery Side: Plug the female XT60 connector of the Smoke Stopper into your LiPo battery.
3. Power On the Drone
- Attach the battery to the Smoke Stopper.
- Observe your drone:
- If the drone powers on normally (e.g., LEDs light up, ESCs beep), there’s no short circuit.
- If the fuse trips, no power will flow to the drone. This indicates a wiring issue or a short.
4. Diagnose and Fix Issues
- If the Smoke Stopper trips:
- Disconnect the battery.
- Check your wiring, solder joints, and connections for shorts or errors.
- Use a multimeter to confirm continuity or detect shorts.
- Correct the issue and retest with the Smoke Stopper.
5. Remove the Smoke Stopper
- Once the drone powers up correctly without tripping the fuse, remove the Smoke Stopper.
- Connect the battery directly for normal operation.
Always test new builds or significant repairs with the Smoke Stopper before direct battery connection. The resettable fuse will reset itself after tripping once the fault is resolved—there’s no need to replace it. For additional diagnostics, use a multimeter to pinpoint faults.
